EKG Technician

Meet the demand for cross-trained health professionals by adding EKG Technician skills to your current resume!  Healthcare facilities look for health professionals with EKG tech background to assist in the detection and/or confirmation of problems with the heart that might prove to be fatal if not detected.

EKG (Electrocardiogram) Technicians perform ECG tests that record and monitor electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. An electrocardiograph (EKG) technician administers diagnostic cardiac tests to patients pre-surgery or to patients who may have cardiac problems; the tests help detect, and monitor medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, pericarditis and angina.

Southern Technical Institute offers the EKG Technician test prep training course to prepare healthcare workers to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG Technician Exam. This course addresses EKG-related medical terminology, cardiac anatomy & physiology, rhythm, and basic interpretation.

EKG Technicians – Employment & Education

EKG Technicians work in physician offices, hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities and organizations. Similar to other growing healthcare professions, the demand for EKG Technicians is expected to continue to grow. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) has projected a 7% employment growth between 2018-2028 due to a large baby boom aging population and the high occurrence of heart disease in the United States.

National Certification Exam: Successful course completion will prepare you to take the National Healthcare Association Certified EKG Technician Exam (CET) offered at Southern Technical Institute for an additional fee. In order to sit for the national exam, you must hold a current BLS CPR for Healthcare Provider certification, along with completion of the ECG/EKG Technician Training course. Payment is due at the time of registration for NHA exam.
